Lake Como, Italy // Scott + Lauren

Lake Como Wedding

When we got the opportunity to photograph a wedding in Italy, to say we were excited is an understatement. When we googled the location and the venues we were very impressed, but nothing could have prepared us for our arrival, the views were amazing!

The great thing about weddings abroad is that it often turns into a holiday/mini-break for the family (all 75 of them) and its a great way to spend some time together and get to know the in-laws. For us it was a great opportunity to explore the area along with Josh and Jake from Sky Weddings who had flown over with us to film the celebrations.

The day was carefully planned by Sally Sephora at Wedding Box Lake Como, who proved to be invaluable throughout the planning process as well as the day itself. When planning a wedding abroad it is often wise to involve a planner as they will have a greater knowledge of the area and the best suppliers within that.

We started the morning lakeside at the gorgeous Hotel Royal Victoria, to begin the preparations. With 6 bridemaid’s and 2 mums on hand, the brides morning was very relaxed. The groom spent the morning with his groomsmen putting some finishing touches to his speech over a beer, before getting ready with a little help from mum, and a little distraction with the heartfelt card written by his wife-to-be.

With everyone ready we headed to the dock and over the lake to Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, a stunning venue! With the guests all seated and the groom gathering his nerves we waited for the bride. After the page boy, flower girl, maid of honour, and the bridesmaids, the father of the bride lead his daughter in with such pride before handing her over with a handshake to her husband-to-be.

The vows were in Italian, of course, which was a first for us – such a gorgeous language! The translator was very enthusiastic, and provided a few laughs for the guests. The grounds of Villa Carlotta provided an opportunity for the newlyweds to sneak away for a little time together while the guests tucked into the canapés and champagne. Then the wedding party joined them for some family portraits, before another boat trip across Lake Como with the bride and groom lay on the back of a speedboat AFTER signing their disclaimer. Bouncing along the waves with Captain Igor at the wheel was equal parts fun and bloody terrifying!

We landed on the opposite side of the lake for the wedding breakfast and reception at Ristorante Sottovento, with stunning views of the lake and the amazing sunset. The food was delicious, all 8 courses of it! Speeches from the brides father, the groom, and the best man were the perfect mix of funny and heartfelt, even I shed a tear or 2!

The evening started with the first dance “You and I” by John Legend, before the amazing wedding band Groovefellas (one of the best Ive ever seen at a wedding) got everyone on the dance floor to dance the night away.

Scott and Lauren – your wedding day was amazing! Thank you for having us and letting us capture the memories. Congratulations on becoming Mr & Mrs Campbell!
