Auchen Castle Wedding
This was the first time I had photographed a wedding north of the border, and I was really looking forward to it! I got married myself in Scotland, and tend to get a wee bit excited whenever we are able to take a trip up there.
Stefan and Becky both got ready at Auchen Castle, such a stunning venue in a little place called Beattock. After a hearty Scottish breakfast we joined the morning preparations. I love that the suites at the venue are all named after the gorgeous Scottish Islands – Islay, Arran, Skye and Jura!
The girls were being pampered in one of the suites by their amazing hair and makeup team while the groom and his boys went for a team-talk outside. I love the way the Bride’s Dad looked at her as he took her arm to lead the way for her final walk before becoming a married woman, you could really feel how proud he was!
What followed next is a beautifully emotional ceremony, with tears, hand-fasting, and more tears. I love the way this couple look at each other; you can tell they both feel so lucky to have found one another! After their first kiss, their Piper lead them out of the ceremony room as new husband and wife – could this wedding be any more Scottish?
After the guests had congratulated the couple and we did their group photos, the Bride and Groom took us down to the loch and onto the jetty where Becky’s veil blew up in the wind. Over the other side of the water the couple had a few minutes together under the shelter of the trees while we snapped a few photos of them to remember that “just married” feeling.
Back inside it was time for the wedding breakfast (Chicken and Haggis in case you were wondering), with such heartfelt and funny speeches by the Father of the Bride, the Groom, and the Best Man. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!
One more surprise was in store for the wedding guests – a Ceilidh!! (very hard to spell, but very easy to do!) If you imagine a dance that nobody really knows at the start, but as you carry on dancing, you learn the moves and swap your dancing partners along the way. Even the shyest of people are guaranteed to have an amazing time!
We met Becky and Stefan two years before their wedding at the Great Northern Wedding Show, and instantly had a connection with them. We’re now really happy to call them our friends, and we’re so glad to have shared their wedding day.
Mr and Mrs Korzeniewski, thank you for trusting us to capture your memories, and for becoming such great friends! Your wedding was an experience that we won’t be forgetting any time soon! x
