Ashfield House Wedding
I met Dean and Laura at a wedding fair at Ashfield House in Standish, Wigan. Immediately we hit it off – these guys were crazy! Always laughing, always holding hands, and always up for a bit of an adventure. So when we had their pre-wedding shoot in the Northern Quarter, grabbing each other to walk to the middle of a busy traffic junction and having a snog was no issue!
Our Ashfield House Wedding
Laura’s ideal proposal had always been at a Stone Roses gig to the song Ten Storey Love Song. Stone Roses reformed in 2012 and played Heaton Park – getting her all excited that it was happening. 4 years later it actually did happen at the Etihad (the stadium of our favourite football team) No matter how much Dean tried to get them to play Ten Storey Love Song it didn’t make the set list. The fireworks at the end was the perfect alternative. Laura heard people saying “OMG he’s proposing”, and there was Dean, down on one knee.
It makes it even better that we get to relive the moment, every game we go to.
WHY WE CHOSE ASHFIELD HOUSE FOR OUR WEDDING:
As soon as we walked through the doors at Ashfield we looked at each other and knew exactly what each other was thinking. Stunning!! Beautifully decorated and a real homely feel. This is where we met Christopher and Victoria Lewis. His style of photography was gorgeous, intricate yet bold. We flipped through album after album and loved his style. The husband and wife duo made us feel hugely at ease, helped us with different stages of planning. Our pre wedding shoot was the best thing we ever did. Not only did we get some amazing shots, it made us feel at ease for the wedding.
OUR BEST MEMORIES OF THE DAY
Deans favourite memory was seeing Laura walk down the aisle, she took his breath away. Alex Birtwell played an instrumental version of Ten Storey Love Song, Laura’s favourite song. Laura’s favourite part was listening to Deans speech. Listening to him speaking from the heart because he got muddled up filled her with love.
WHAT WE THINK OUR GUESTS ENJOYED MOST ABOUT THE DAY
Where do we start, we had so many amazing compliments! From the setting of the venue and friendliness of staff, to Alex Birtwell going rogue on guitar and getting the guests to join in! He kept spirits high and the guests in a party mood. To the less invasive photography, there to capture every moment of the day. Chris and his second shooter Wayne mingled with guests and made everyone feel so comfortable and at ease – just like part of the family! Jon of DFC kept the party going after the first dance playing club classic, 90’s cheesy Pop to the cooler oasis, smiths and stone roses. Not forgetting to mention Grease, spice girls and Dirty dancing mega mixes.
Laura and Dean’s Ashfield House Wedding Day
On the morning of the wedding Laura and the girls set up at Ashfield’s ‘Sitting Room’, a private preparation room at the venue. Dad Gary was waiting in the wings to see his daughter for the first time – what an emotional experience! Once they had a moment, and shed a few tears (Yes Gary, I’m talking about you!) we headed downstairs to the ceremony, where groom Dean was patiently waiting for his Bride.
Their ceremony was awesome to capture, this couple are so fun they just smiled and laughed throughout, and I loved capturing their reactions! (Love my sneaky shot of Dad watching on with pride too)
After the ceremony we were able to head to the front entrance of Ashfield House for a shower of confetti, followed by a handful of formal family photos, before we disappeared off into the grounds at Ashfield to give the couple space to be in their wedding bubble – again, this couple are always making each other laugh, and I love that it shows so much in their photos.
The speeches followed this, they were equal parts funny and heartfelt. The bond between the bride and her dad is lovely to see! Alex Birtwell Wedding Entertainer then entertained the couple and their guests, and Dad even joined in, much to the brides delight!
The guests moved through to the bar area while the room was turned around for the wedding reception, and Alex continued the party in there – with the help of Best Man Dan, and Groom Dean, who both jumped on the mic!!
The terrace on the back of Ashfield House is lit up once it goes dark, and as it was March it meant we could take advantage of this (with the help of some smoke bombs too!) Again it meant the couple had a little bit of time away from their guests to soak in the day.
You’ll see from the evening photos that we couldn’t leave out the other love of Dean’s life – Best Man Dan… I think its clear they have a strong BROmance! They disappeared upstairs for a quick cuddle, a glass of Champagne in a bathtub, a cuddle, and then Dean serenaded Dan with the help of Ashfield’s piano.
Back downstairs to his new wife – Dean lead Laura through to their evening reception to cut the cake and have their first dance as Husband and Wife, before the guests joined in and partied the night away with them.
As you can tell by the last photo – we left just before it got too messy, but I’m sure there will have been hangovers the next day!
Laura and Dean, thank you so much for having us!! It was awesome to get to know your family and we loved that we were the ones to capture your day for you!
